Axis setup is best performed after the test-load steps in the previous page. Use
that process to get a feel for the motion parameters that will apply to the
specific effects at hand. The axis setup panel on the controller software
provides a way to save these values.
- Determine the safe top speed. Generally this
is full motor speed and can be determined by spinning the motor at top speed
locally on the drive and noting the counts per second in MAX. This process
is described in Control Card Testing.
Input the value in the controller's setup panel. Generally a nice round
number a bit less than the top speed is the best choice.
- Enter the maximum travel counts for the axis.
This can be done by jogging the axis out to its furthest safe travel and
noting the counts in the position display. Rounding down is generally a good
idea.
- Enter the directions of motion and whether
limits are being used for each axis.
